My first ever blog

If you read the title, you may think this has been my first blog. No. Yesterday I already created one as a first try. I hope I can share it with you. Not because it is so good but this will be my first attempt to share something in my blog. http://melindasfirstblog.blogspot.hu/
This whole blogging is new to me but after having read the article “Using Blogs in the Classroom” by Gayle Morris (the article is on our reading list) I find blogging a really interesting and useful teaching tool.
I am quite excited about the whole course.

  1. I had the same story with Java: I spent a couple of days trying to understand why it didn't work. Thank you for mentioning profile photo; I'll try to find one soon.

How exactly are you going to use Google maps with your students? I've had no idea it could be used.

    2. Dear Roman,

Have you read Robert's article "Using Google My Maps for Classroom Projects" at http://tesl-ej.org/ej48/m1.html ? It has some ideas how to use Google Maps.

The first thing I am planning to do with one of my classes is to plan a day sightseeing in the Hungarian capital. I imagine doing it in the form of group work. The reason is that we are taking part in an international project and in April delegations from 7 other countries are visiting us within the framework of Comenius Project. I have already started preparing my kids for this visit. The members of the delegations are students aged 15-17. I want my students to plan what to show the guests, which itinerary we should follow, what information they would tell about the famous sights. So they will have to prepare a map on which they have to pinpoint the landmarks, add some information and photos about them, and plan the itinerary. It sounds quite challenging. I hope my kids will like the idea too.

With another group I am planning to ask the students to pinpoint five different settlements in our country where their relatives or friends live and add one advantage and one disadvantage to each point. Our discussion topic soon will be “Living in the city, living in the country”, and I think this activity will motivate the kids.
